If you plan on using you home resort and not exchanging, a 3br villa can give your family a much more comfortable stay! I normally recommend the Houses at Summer Bay even before Grande Vista.

But- I normally recommend to clients that a 2br purchase may be a better choice in the long run. Remember that there aren’t that many 3br villas in the marketplace. There are many more resorts that offer 2br units. The main complaint I’ve heard from 3br owners is that they often find they are exchanging into 2br villas. If you do this several times, you realize you are spending far more each year in m. fees than you should be.

If you can split the units via a lockout feature and actually use and enjoy the small side- then you’ll have more options. However- be sure to understand how the unit you purchase splits. If your small side unit is a studio- and you won’t be comfortable in a studio exchange, it’s not going to be a wise purchase.

I’ve stayed at Star Island several times and enjoyed every stay. I have a young teen who absolutely loves the studio lockout with the mini kitchen and sleep sofa because the lockout set up creates the feeling that she’s “on her own”.. The pool area is smallish- but overall the amenity package is satisfactory.

I’ve also stayed at the 3br villas at Grande Vista a few times and found it more comfortable in my view. The villas are more luxurious, and the amenity package is far better. You are correct though in that Grande Vista is more costly to acquire.

I’ve only stayed at Houses at Summer Bay once, and the privacy and set up made it my favorite by far. Most houses (but not all- there are a few that do not so be careful when purchasing), have their own private pool and hot tub. I’m more of a private person than a social butterfly- so I really enjoyed the peace and quiet. My wife missed the social interaction with others- though..

After you look at all your options- if you still can’t decide, perhaps renting a few years will enable you to discover which resort best meets the needs of your family.
